The Department of Agriculture (DA) will be introducing local coconut products from the Philippines to Russia and Belarus.
DA Sec. Manny Pinol revealed on Thursday, March 7, that he will be part of a delegation that will bring various high-value coconut products, including coconut oil, coconut sugar, and coconut syrup, to supermarkets in Moscow, Russia, and Minsk, Belarus.
According to Pinol, they will be introducing the coconut products of the Philippines to Russia and Belarus by putting the products in display at supermarkets, and distributing pamphlets.
Pinol added that he and Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev will issue a joint statement on cooperation during the week-long trip.
“Lahat ng high-value products ng coconut ididisplay natin sa isang supermarket sa Moscow at sa isang supermaket sa Minsk, capital ng Belarus. Magpapakilala lang,” Pinol said during DZRH’s Damdaming Bayan.
The agriculture secretary mentioned that Russia opened their markets to the Philippines following President Rodrigo Duterte’s trip to Moscow in May, 2017.
He also revealed that the Philippines has already introduced and has been exporting local fish products to Eastern European countries and Russian Federation member states.
“Ang pinag-uusapan natin ngayon ay ang pagbubukas ng merkado for coconut. Ito yung concern natin ngayon, we have to discover new markets for our coconut products so that tumaas yung presyo ng ating mga copra,” Pinol explained.
The DA chief said that he will be leaving the Philippines on Sunday, March 10, for his trip in Russia.
