The Philippine national women’s volleyball team started their campaign in the second leg of the 2019 ASEAN Grand Prix with a three-set win against Vietnam, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21, on Friday, Oct. 4, at Sta. Rosa Multi-purpose Gym in Sta. Rosam Laguna.
Alyssa Valdez, who missed the first leg of the tournament due to an injury in her right ankle, led the home team to victory with 14 points. Mylene Paat and Ces Molina each finished with 13 points for the Philippine squad.
Thi Kieu Trinh Hoang scored 14 points for the Vietnamese team that lacked their star player Thi Thanh Thuy Tran because of her commitment to the Japanese volleyball team Denso Airybees.
The Filipinas will seek to seize their second win when they face Thailand on Saturday, Oct. 5, in Laguna.
However, the national team will be missing the services of Valdez, Jia Morado, Jovelyn Gonzaga and Maddie Madayag because their teams in the Premier Volleyball League will be playing in Iloilo City.
