The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws overcame a lethargic start to beat the University of the East Lady Warriors 20-25, 25-5,25-18, 25-14 (3-1) to stay within reach of a Final Four berth in the UAAP Womens Volleyball tournament at the The Arena in San Juan.
With the victory the Lady Tamaraws (5-4) held on to fourth spot behind the De La Salle University Lady Spikers (9-0), the National University Lady Bulldogs (8-1) and the Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles (6-3).
Out of the Final Four and looking in are the Adamson University Lady Falcons (4-5), the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses (3-6), the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons and the winless University of the East Lady Warriors (0-9).
FEU setter Gizelle Sy once again showed why she is arguably the best setter in the UAAP right now. Sy executed 23 excellent sets out of 117 attempts.
Recipients of most of those sets were the bookend pair of spikers of FEU in Geneveve Casugod and Bernadette Pons. Casugod and Pons both had identical 10 points from their booming spikes.
FEU showed precision in its attack scoring 43 points from 156 total team attempts. UE actually had more attacks with 172 but could only win 28 points from them.
FEU was also the more hard-working team at the net on the defensive end putting up 61 blocking attempts compared to only 46 by UE.
In the other match of the day the Lady Spikers scored another three-set victory with a 25-9, 25-19, 25-13 mauling of the Adamson University Lady Falcons.
