The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) had its initial report prepared regarding investigation on the alleged collusion between power producers to shut down its plants that will force a hike on the power rate that will be shouldered by the consumers of the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).
ERC Commissioner Aina Asirit said the investigation is still on going to clear the issue amid the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) issued by the Supreme Court on the power rate hike.
The Malacañang Palace earlier said the TRO on the hike will not affect the investigation of the Department of Justice and Department of Energy on the alleged collusion.
Petitioner Peter Ilagan of the National Association of Electricity Consumer for Reforms (NASECOR) expressed his confidence the TRO will not affect the investigation of the Office of Competition of the DOJ regarding the collusion.
Ilagan said the investigation of the DOJ is a great help to determine if there really was collusion among power producers and the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) to force the staggered power rate hike.
