After falling short in the 2014 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup the Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters want nothing less than revenge when they battle the San Mig Coffee Mixers.
The two squads start the best-of-five Semifinals of the 2014 PBA Governors’ Cup 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena with the pain of losing the Philippine Cup title to the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers burning hot in the minds of the Elasto Painters.
Preventing the San Mig Coffee Mixers from getting a PBA Grand Slam will not be the biggest impetus for Rain Or Shine. Foremost on their minds is winning the PBA title for themselves according to Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters mentor Yeng Guiao.
The pain of losing that best-of-seven championship in six has certainly motivated the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters who lost the Philippine Cup crown to San Mig Super Coffee in six games.
Coach Guiao wants to reverse the trend as the Elasto Painters seek their second PBA title.
“What we’re aiming for is our second championship and I believe we have a good chance even though we know how tough it will be against San Mig,” said Guiao.
While the Super Coffee Mixers just want to extend their winning streak of conference championships plus a potential Grand Slam, Guiao made it clear that his team will not be satisfied with being just spoilers.
“We’re not trying to stop the history of San Mig, we just want to make our own history,” said Guiao.
Rain Or Shine bested the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers in seven grueling games two seasons ago in this very same Governors’ Cup tournament with the league powerhouse claiming its first league crown.
The Elasto Painters and the Super Coffee Mixers are no strangers to facing each other in big playoffs. They are headed to their third playoff against each other in the last three seasons.
Rain Or Shine wants to end its championship drought this season. They lost two championship series when they bowed to the Mixers this season and Talk N Text in last season’s Philippine Cup.
