The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters try to extend the best-of seven Finals when they battle the Super Coffee Mixers in Game 6 of the 2014 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 26 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Will this be the coronation night or the equalizer? The public finds out the answer when San Mig Coffee and Rain or Shine go at it again when they resume the Finals showdown.
San Mig Coffee leads the series 3-2 but the Elasto Painters have momentum on their side. Jeff Chan virtually shot the net to shreds with his uncanny outside shooting as Rain or Shine kept the series alive with an 81-74 victory in Game 5 last Sunday.
With the momentum on the Elasto Painters’ side, the Coffee Mixers hope to turn the tide in their favor again so they can finally have their balloons fall from the ceiling and they get to hoist that championship trophy.
Still alive and kicking the Elasto Painters certainly have plans of their own.
”We’re still certainly behind them in the series. But there’s one thing we can promise the fans, we will fight it out to the end. We’re still looking to take the championship,” said a motivated Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao, who wants nothing more than force a do-or-die Game 7 on Friday.
Chan, a national team mainstay, scored 24 of his game-high 25 markers in the second half as he refused to cooperate with the Mixers’ plan of ending the series. With Chan firing away from the outside and the rest of the Elasto Painters holding their own inside the paint Rain or Shine grabbed a hard-earned victory in Game 5 to force the Game 6 on Wednesday.
