President Rodrigo Duterte and United States of America President Donald Trump did not discuss the human rights issue in the Philippines during their bilateral meeting.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the two leaders talked about the illegal drug problem in the Philippines rather than the human rights issue.

Roque said that Trump seemingly sympathizes with the current Administration’s War on Drugs since he frequently nods as Pres. Duterte explains the Philippine government’s anti-illegal drug campaign.

However, the American President did not state his official position on the drug war.

Duterte and Trump previously met in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit, and during the gala dinner of the 31st ASEAN Summit.

Meanwhile, during his opening statement, Trump insisted that he has a good relationship with Duterte and praised the Philippines for hosting the 31st ASEAN Summit and Related meetings.
