Incoming President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the newly appointed presidential legal counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo to focus on the issue of the coco levy fund.
According to Duterte, the coco levy fund is considered as an emotional issue for the famers, and even to her late mother, who was a victim of the said controversial fund.
During his first ever Cabinet meeting in Manila on Wednesday at the Philippine International Convention Center, one of the issue they discussed was the coco levy fund.
President Duterte tasked Panelo to focus on the said matter and immediately give the farmers the funds they deserve, provided they won’t be violating any law in the Constitution.
Meanwhile, Department of Agriculture, in-charge of the Philippine Coconut Authority, incoming Agriculture Secretary Manny Pinol reported that they will launch a massive rehabilitation to more than 6,000 hectares of coconut, nationwide.
Pinol named its program “COPRA” or Coconut Productivity Rehabilitation Agenda, a project that will bring back the Philippines as the top coconut producer in the world.
Since the 1990s, more than three million coconut farmers are hoping for the benefits from the Php100 billion coco levy fund.
