The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to release the details of the increase in the minimum wage of workers this week.
During an interview with dzRH’s “Isyu”, DOLE Secretary Silvestre “Bebot” Bello III disclosed that the government is preparing for a Php 100 – 200 increase for the minimum wage earners. He also addressed that the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board nationwide should conduct an intent assessment in their current economic situation and submit to DOLE the proposed ‘wage adjustment papers’ of every region.
According to Labor Undersecretary Jing Paras, Bello might announce the adjustments on the minimum wage through the results of the study and recommendation of the Regional Tripartite Wages Board. Yet, DOLE reminded the workers that they will not be able to increase the wage on their own since it has to be legislated.
However, the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) justified that the minimum wage should increase to Php750 since the prices of basic commodities and services are in a rampant surge.
