S/Supt. Jomar Modequillo, the dismissed police chief of Caloocan city, carried a cross from the city’s police headquarters to the first Station of the Cross in Mabini Street.
At the first Station of the Cross, Modequillo transferred the cross to the station commander deployed to the area.
The former Caloocan City police chief already had plans to carry the cross during the Lenten season and he was given his chance after the morning mass on March 27.
Modequillo was removed from his post for failing to solve about half of the shooting incidents in Caloocan, and he will be replaced by S/Supt. Restituto Arcangel, chief of the Manila Police District’s Safety Battalion.
Last September, Modequillo took the leadership of the Caloocan City police after S/Supt. Chito Bersaluna was relieved of the said post following the controversial death of 17-year old Kian Delos Santos, and other questionable incidents.
According to reports, under Modequillo’s watch, there had been 111 cases of shooting in Caloocan, most of which happened in the district of Camarin.
