The family of the late senator Jose Diokno was quick to clarify the statements made by former Senator Juan Ponce-Enrile during his one-on-one interview with former Senator Bongbong Marcos regarding the alleged misconceptions on Martial Law.
JPE said that during Martial Law, no one was arrested because of their political beliefs.
In a statement issued by the Diokno family, if they can give a single name that has been arrested due to differing political belief, it would be the name of their father.
The family added that JPE’s claims on Martial Law are all lies and they distort history.
Based on their statement, the late senator Diokno was in jail for two years without being charged or going through interrogation.
Diokno, together with the late Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. and Chino Roces were detained at Fort Bonifacio before being transferred to solitary confinement in Laur, Nueva Ecija.
The family also quashed JPE’s claim that only a few individuals were arrested during the implementation of Martial Law in the country.
The Dioknos insisted that thousands of Filipino people were crying for justice because of the many human rights’ violations committed during the Marcos era.
The tete-a-tete between Bongbong and JPE was uploaded at the younger Marcos’ Facebook page. According to the administrator of the said page, a part two of the interview will be released on Sunday, Sept. 23.
