The Department of Education (DepEd) will need 40,000 teachers for the next school year after the Supreme Court declared the constitutionality of the K-12 Basic Education Program.
According to DepEd Usec. Annalyn Sevilla, currently, the department has 10,000 teachers and will need to hire 30,000 more educators to supplement the needs of the whole Philippines.
Sevilla admitted that there are current problems in the hiring and the deployment of qualified teachers due to cases of mismatch in their location and their specialization.
The issue stemmed from the teachers having a preferred subject and location where they want to be deployed. The DepEd is currently thinking of possible solutions to the said problem.
