The Department of Education are reviewing textbooks regarding Philippine History, particularly topics concerning the 1970s’ Martial Law and the term of the late President Ferdinand Marcos.
According to DepEd Assistant Secretary Jess Mateo, other than reviewing books, they have ordered teachers to be neutral in teaching history, especially on sensitive topics, to elementary and high-school students.
“Yung kasaysayan kasi, alam niyo nag-iiba iyan depende iyan kung sino ang sumusulat. Pero siyempre hindi natin pababayaan na ganoon na lang kailang ilagay natin sa konteksto ang pinaguusapan natin.” Asec. Mateo said during an exclusive interview with DZRH.
During the rallies last September 21, political leaders insisted that the public should not forget the harsh situation faced by the Philippines during the Martial Law of ex-Pres. Marcos and that there should be action to prevent a repetition of such event.
