The Department of Education (DepEd) commended the act of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for calling the urgent passage of salary increase for government workers, especially public school teachers during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 22.
In a statement, the DepEd said that once the new Salary Standardization Law (SSL) it “will increase the compensation of government workers, including public school teachers whose work and toil shape the mind of the youth and build the foundation of a strong country.”
“The Department hopes that this gain will help to further uplift the professional and personal condition of teachers as DepEd continues to work from enhancing access to improving the quality of basic education,” it said.
President Duterte has been known for his support in the passage of the said law that highly concerns teachers and other government workers, which is why it is no surprise to anyone how he prioritized the legislative on his SONA.
As of June 2019, entry-level public-school teachers belong to Salary Grade 11 under Tranche 4 of the Salary Standardization Law, which means educators in public schools earn a monthly salary of Php 20,754.
