Deo Macalma bags Best Public Affairs Host; BNK takes home Best Children’s Program


DZRH, the longest-running AM station in the country took home major awards in the recently concluded 2017 KBP Golden Dove Awards, held at the Star Theater, Pasay City.

Lakay Deo Macalma, seasoned anchor of DZRH programs’ Pangunahing Balita, Isyu, and Breaktime, was named Best Public Affairs Host.

Elpidio ‘Deo’ Macalma started his career with DZRH as a news writer during the 1980s. Throughout the years, his dedication has allowed him to climb to positions such as Managing Editor, News Director and Assistant Vice President of the station. Currently, the mayor of Star City holds the post of Assistant station manager in DZRH.

Meanwhile, Boses ng Kabataan was named as the Best Children’s Program of 2017 by the KBP.

BNK is hosted by Jana Abejero, popularly known as Jana Banana. The program, which started in 2012,  invites students and other millennials to present their ideas on different issues faced by the country. The youth are also allowed to show their various talents during the program.

Also taking home the much-coveted Golden Dove is Angelo Palmones for Best Newscaster, Radyo Balintataw for Best Radio Drama Program and Art to Art for Best Culture and Arts Program.

Nicole Hiyala of Love Radio FM won her first Golden Dove as Best Variety Program Host and Aksyon Radyo Bacolod bagged the Best AM Station-Provincial.
