University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers coach Bong Dela Cruz III issued a statement to media denying speculations that he and some players of the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers were involved in game fixing or that he and senior players were abusive to other players.
Dela Cruz said he chose to keep silent on the issues which have been hounding the team for the last two weeks. He decided to issue the statement to express his side on the controversy because his family was already being affected by the swirling controversy.
“Alam ko sa aking sarili na malinis ang aking konsensya subalit mas pipiliin ko na kung kinakailangan ay sa tamang lugar o sa proper forum ako magsasalita upang maipahayag ko ang aking panig,” said Dela Cruz.
Fr. Ermito de Sagon, O.P., director of the Institute for Physical Education and Athletics, said Dela Cruz is under investigation but did not elaborate on the focus of the investigation.
Dela Cruz meanwhile awaits the decision of the University administration regarding his fate.
Sources said school authorities are looking into claims that rookie members of the team have experienced verbal and physical abuse under Dela Cruz.
There were reports which claimed that harsh punishments were given for mistakes made during training.
De Sagon, in a statement to the official school paper, The Varsitarian, did not reveal the subject of the investigation.
