The first eight (8) blood samples of pigs from Barangay Bagong Silangan and Payatas in Quezon City have tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF) in confirmatory tests conducted by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).
According to reports, a total of of 45 blood samples were submitted before BA and DAI, however, the results of the remaining samples are yet to be released and submitted to Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.
Belmonte, in a statement, said that she will be meeting with hog raisers to discuss the immediate culling of pigs in the two affected barangays. Earlier, the QC mayor culled 166 pigs to prevent the spread of African swine fever in the area.
Also, Belmonte revealed that they will be allocating a total of Php 10 million worth of financial assistance for the affected areas of ASC in the city.
