Customers of Manila Water Company Inc. will receive rebates for the recent water shortage.
Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage Services (MWSS) Chief Regulator Patrick Ty explained that about 140,000 severely affected consumers will receive Php 2,197.94 rebate.
Customers are considered ‘severely affected’ if they are in barangays that experienced water service interruptions for 24 hours for at least seven days.
“This amount was identified based on the list of 45 barangays released by Manila Water when the concessionaire offered a one-time bill waver last April,” Ty said in a press briefing.
This is aside from the rebate for 10 cubic meters of water, equivalent to Php 153.93, that all active accounts of Manila Water will receive.
Ty explained that the rebate will be deducted from the June billing statements of Manila Water customers, and the remainder can be used as payment for unpaid or future bills of consumers.
