The debate regarding the Bangsamoro Basic Law has started in the plenary
Cagayan De Oro Cong. Rufus Rodriguez, chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on the BBL, was one of the lawmakers who delivered his sponsorship speech for the Basic Law for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.
During the debate at the plenary, lawmakers will scrutinize the provisions of the BLBAR, which will be answered by Rodriguez and the bill’s other authors.
The BBL draft made it pass the committee of Rodriguez after President Benigno Aquino III called some of the members of the lower house to a meeting a few days before their deliberation.
If Rodriguez will defend the BBL, Buhay Partylist Rep. Lito Atienza among others, said that they will do everything to block the proposed bill from getting approved.
Atienza and some opposition lawmakers, and lawyers filed a complaint of Treason and Inciting to Sedition against the officials and members of the peace panel of the GRP and the MILF with the belief that the MILF will create a separate republic.
Rodriguez wants the BLBAR’s passage by June 11, but some members of Congress doubt if this is possible, especially with the issue of quorum or the number of lawmakers present in a session.
