The House of Representatives withdrew its Php1,000 2018 budget for the Commission on Human Rights, Energy Regulatory Commission and National Commission on Indigenous People
House Appropriations Committee Chairman Karlo Nograles has confirmed that the lower house brought back the original proposed budget of the CHR, amounting to Php678 million.
The ERC will also be receiving its Php390 million budget, and so will be the Php1.1 billion being asked by the NCIP.
The heads of the three agencies made an appeal to House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez with the help of House Majority leader Rodolfo Farinas and Nograles.
Nograles said that during the said meeting, CHR chairman Chito Gascon agreed that his agency will not only limit its investigation on the human rights violations being committed by cops, but also to members of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines who sometimes experience human rights violations too.
Meanwhile, the ERC and the NCIP vowed that they will do everything to fight corruption and implement to the fullest their mandates.
