COMELEC to suspend proclamation

COMELEC Chairman Sixto Brillantes

The Commission on Elections will delay the proclamation of winning candidates that are not registered voters, currently convicted of a crime, and or are considered “nuisance”.

This came from COMELEC Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr himself, as he mentioned it during a press briefing regarding the barangay elections this year.

Brillantes added that it’s been generally peaceful with minor problems in poll centers.

The COMELEC Chairman also clarified that the barangay elections should be over by three in the afternoon but he gave the poll center officials discretion if they are willing to extend if there are still a lot of voters.

Meanwhile, contrary to what Brillantes discussed during the press briefing, barangay elections in some areas didn’t push through because of lack of election paraphernalia.

According to the COMELEC, the giving of election paraphernalia to six clustered precincts in Vinzons, Camarines Norte got delayed.

There were also some elections materials that got “drowned” in Brgy. Mahabang Sapa, Cuartero Capiz.

The COMELEC however postponed the elections in Calayan Island and Cagayan to October 30 and 31.

But still, Brillantes insisted that these are still considered as minor problems.
