The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) appealed for personalities planning to run for the 2019 midterm elections to show dignity in filing their certificate of candidacy starting Thursday, October 11.
In a news forum on Wednesday, October 10, COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez said that they don’t want the filing of COCs to become a circus of the candidate’s supporters.
“We don’t want it to be chaotic. We don’t want it to be disorderly that’s why we are controlling the process,” Jimenez said.
The COMELEC official insisted that based on their rules, anyone running for Senator is only allowed to bring four companions when they file their COC at the Palacio Gobernador building in Intramuros, Manila.
While, Partylists are only allowed to have 10 representatives, including their nominees, enter the building.
The COMELEC is also prohibiting candidates to bring in their pets or weapons when filing for their COC; media presence will be limited as well.
The offices of the COMELEC will be open from 8:00AM up to 5:00PM in order to receive the COCs of the candidates.
Filing of COCs will start tomorrow until Friday, and will continue next Monday, Oct. 15 up to the 17th.
