NBA Los Angeles player Jordan Clarkson is here in the country as he is set to provide that necessary boost for Gilas Pilipinas.
In a statement issued by Clarkson, the Fil-Am player states that he has consulted his father, Mr. Mike Clarkson and that the two will have to discuss his plans of wanting to play for the Philippine team.
According to Jordan, his father is “genuinely concerned for my career, my future and my wellbeing.”
As of press time, nothing is definite yet since the Samahan ng Basketbol ng Pilipinas has yet to formally ask the NBA and the LA Lakers if Clarkson can play for the Gilas.
However, they have already forwarded a copy of the Philippine passport of Clarkson to FIBA, and included his name in the line-up of Gilas Pilipinas.
Clarkson is currently in the country, observing the practice scrimmages of the Philippine team. He will also be involved in some Basketball clinics in the Metro.
Here is the complete statement of Jordan Clarkson:
“My father, Mike, has always looked out for my welfare and is only genuinely concerned for my career, my future and my wellbeing-his thoughts are that of a very loving dad. I just called him and we agreed we will talk about my playing for Gilas when I get back. Nothing is cast in stone. But I was to assure my Filipino brothers and sisters that, if given the chance and everything can be worked out, I sincerely wish to play for Gilas and contribute to the total team effort for flag and country- this is the reason why I am observing and familiarizing myself with the team while here and will even follow them in Taipei for the Jones Cup so I can see them compete close up and benefit from the learnings from said experience. Laban Pilipinas! Puso!”
