An inmate from the New Bilibid Prisons believed to have been living a lavish lifestyle and was transferred to the National Bureau of Investigation, had died last July 1.

Bureau of Corrections Director Ricardo Rainier Cruz confirmed the death of George Sy, who was tagged in Bilibig 19 before his transfer to the NBI under the order of Justice Secretary Leila De Lima.

Sy has been accused of bribing jail guards with money in exchange of a more comfortable lifestyle inside the prison.

Sy was sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with his illegal drugs case.

According to Cruz, the Bureau of Corrections already coordinated with the Chinese embassy the death of Sy.

The convicted criminal was suffering stage 4 Colon Cancer.

Cy was brought to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center last May 12, 2015.
