One of the teacher-scholars of the Commission of Higher Education revealed that most of them had borrowed money from loan sharks due to the delayed monthly allowance from the government agency.
According to Prof. Danica, they have applied for loans since the living allowance from CHED, which was supposed to be for their education and travel fees, has been delayed for almost a year now.
“Yung iba almost a year wala pang allowance. Yung iba mag-nine months wala pa rin.” Danica said during DZRH’s One On One. “In order for us to sustain yung schooling namin. Most of us would apply for loans.”
Danica said that CHED reasoned that the delay was due to a delay in documents and the shift in the Academic calendar.
However, the professor refuted this explanation since they, the scholars, have been submitting the documents on time and insisted that the calendar shift should not have affected the allowance.
Danica further added that CHED required too many documents, including a copy of their grades, and a certificate of enrollment.”
“Marami silang paliwanag. Isang paliwanag nila yung mga documents namin nadedelay pero up to date kami nagpapasa ng documents namin. Yung academic calendar hindi namin kasi iyon problema.” Danica insisted “Na-submit na namin lahat iyon on time.”
Danica further added that it was promised that the allowance was going to be deposited on January 5 but it never came.
“Yung promise nila sana January 5 yung pag-deposit ng allowance kaso hanggang ngayon wala pa rin.” Danica revaled. “Marami ng nag-aabang na loan sharks na nagpaphiram sa amin.”
