Congress’ impending investigation on the series of police operations against illegal drugs is nothing but a move to tarnish the reputation of the Duterte administration.
This was Solicitor General Jose Calida’s statement during his visit in Camp Crame.
Calida was obviously fuming mad at Senator Leila De Lima, after the rookie Senator filed the resolution for the Philippine National Police to investigate the said matter.
According to Calida, De Lima failed to address the illegal drugs problems in the country when she was still the Justice Secretary.
In fact, the operation of drug lords became stronger at the National Bilibid Prisons in spite of De Lima’s control over the National Bureau of Investigation, Prosecution Service and Bureau of Correction.
Calida insisted that Congress’ investigation is not “in aid of legislation” but “in aid of media mileage”, to shame the Duterte administration.
In line with this, Calida said that they will look into it first if the officials of the PNP need to attend the said Congressional hearing.
PNP Chief Director Gen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa thanked the Office of the Solicitor General for its support. This is a start of their intense campaign against illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, Senator Leila De Lima fired back at Solicitor General Calida amid the latter allegation that the lady Senator did not do anything to stop the spread of illegal drugs operations inside the NBP when she was still the Justice Secretary.
De Lima challenged Calida to look back at all the things he was able to accomplish when he was still with the DOJ. Calida was Justice Undersecretary during the Arroyo administration.
However, amid the word war between the two government officials, De Lima is firm to submit a resolution that will call for an investigation in the Senate.
