When fuss was created regarding the calamity fund after consecutive calamities hit the country, the government was quick to pacify the fire, saying that the calamity fund is still intact.
But during the House Appropriations Committee hearing, it was found out that the calamity fund only has about P1 billion.
In the committee hearing, Budget Undersecretary Luz Cantor said as of November 15, the supposed P7.5 billion calamity fund now only has P1.8 billion.
The quick response fund that has an original fund of P3.8 billion, meanwhile, was hiked to P4.3 billion after savings from the fund were transferred to it.
The 2013 national budget , on the other hand, has remaining funds of P113.16 billion after the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) released 89.4% of it last October 31.
