Three 40-footer container trucks, which were assumed came from China were apprehended by the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

The container trucks, which contained an estimate of Php 4.2 million worth of smuggled onions were blocked at the Manila International Container Port.

In the trucks permit it says that it would be transporting garlic, but when inspected by the BOC numerous amounts of onions were discovered. According to District Collector Atty. Jett Vincent Maronilla, this is a new form of modus.

Bureau of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Division Dir. Neil Anthony Estrella greatly praised the government’s Intelligence Operations for its continuous efforts to catch smugglers.

And to be fair to all Filipino farmers the BOC has decided to burn all apprehended onions.
