Senate ousts Senator Leila De Lima as chairperson on Committee on Justice

Senator Leila De Lima has been ousted by the Senate as chairperson of the Committee on Justice, with a vote of  14 affirmative, two abstain, and four no votes.

Prior to this, Senator Leila De Lima walked out during Monday’s session while Senator Alan Peter Cayetano was delivering his privilege speech.

After Cayetano’s speech, Senator Manny Pacquiao moved to declare that

Before the Senate suspended its Monday’s session, Senator Manny Pacquiao for the chairmanship and membership of the Justice Committee be vacant.  The Senate then called for a suspension of its session for a caucus.


When the session resumed, the Senate then stated that it has approved Senator Pacquiao’s move to declare vacant the Senate Committee on Justice, thus ousting De Lima from the said post.

Senator Richard Gordon will be replacing De Lima as the committee chair, with Senator Panfilo Lacson as Vice chairman.
