The Bureau of Customs is already busy preparing for the expected influx of ‘balikbayan boxes’ this holiday season.
OFWs and Filipinos abroad customarily gift balikbayan boxes to their families in the Philippines during the Christmas season.
Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña promised that they will protect the contents of balikbayan boxes sent by overseas Filipino workers to their families.
According to Lapeña, BOC officials and employees were already warned not to open the packages of the OFWs.
Customs officials should not open balikbayan boxes,” Lapeña said. “The boxes will go through x-ray machines in our ports.”
“Wala ng bukasan ng balikbayan boxes ngayon. Idadaan na lang natin iyan sa x-ray,” Lapeña said.
