The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) unveiled on Sunday, August 25, the final line-up of the Philippine National Men’s Basketball team for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.
Gilas Pilipinas mainstays naturalized player Andray Blatche and five-time PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo lead the 12-man squad which also includes Japeth Agular, Raymond Almazan, Mark Barroca, June Paul Lee, Gabe Norwood, Roger Pogoy, and Troy Rosario.
PBA rookies Robert Bolick and CJ Perez also made it to the national team headed by coach Joseller ‘Yeng’ Guiao.
Completing the line-up is Kiefer Ravena who returns to the Gilas Pilipinas team after serving an 18-month suspension imposed by FIBA for testing positive for three illegal substances.
SBP announced the line-up after the national team pool lose to Adelaide 36ers, 85-75, in their second tune-up game against the Australian team at Meralco Gym in Pasig City.
“These are the 12 gallant men who will fight for flag and country in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China but they would not have gotten this opportunity if it were not for the sacrifices of all the players, coaches, and staff that helped that helped along the way throughout the FIBA Asian Qualifiers,” SBP President Alfredo Panlilo said in a statement.
Panlilo promised that the chosen players will do their best to represent the 100 million Filipinos and promote the Philippine brand of basketball in the world stage.
The 2019 FIBA World Cup will start on Saturday, August 31, and will run until September 15.
