San Miguel Beermen big man June Mar Fajardo became the first PBA player to be named Most Valuable Player for five straight seasons.

Fajardo received his fifth PBA MVP award on Sunday, Jan. 13, during the Leo Awards at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

The 6’10 basketball star from Cebu surpassed the records set by PBA legends Ramon Fernandez and Alvin Patrimonio for the most number of PBA MVP awards won.

Fernandez and Patrimonio seized four PBA MVP plums before retiring from the league.

Fajardo led the Mythical 5 team composed of Stanley Pringle from Northport Batang Pier, Paul Lee from the Magnolia Hotshots, Marcio Lassister from San Miguel, and Japeth Aguilar from Brgy. Ginebra.

The known center of the Beermen is also included in the All-Defensive Team.

He was joined by fellow Mythical 5 member Lee, back-to-back Sportsmanship awardee Gabe Norwood of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, Paul Reavis of Magnolia, and Chris Ross of San Miguel.

Meanwhile, Most Improved Player awardee Scottie Thompson of Brgy. Ginebra was named to the 2nd Mythical team alongside Arwind Santos of San Miguel, Poy Erram of NLEX Road Warriors, Marc Barroca of Magnolia, and Matthew Wright of the Phoenix Fuel Masters.

Jason Perkins of the Fuel Masters, meanwhile, took home the Rookie of the Year award.
