Signal No. 1 has been hoisted in the areas of Batanes and the Babuyan Islands as Typhoon Fabian moves slowly west southward while maintaining its strength on Thursday, July 22, according to the PAGASA.
In its latest weather bulletin, the state weather bureau said the center of Typhoon Fabian was last seen at 525 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center and with gustiness of up to 185 km/h, and a central pressure of 955 hPa.
PAGASA said Fabian is unlikely to directly bring heavy rainfall in the country throughout the forecast period.
However, monsoon rains should be expected in the areas of Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, southern Quezon, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and the northern portion of Palawan including Calamian and Kalayaan Islands.
Strong winds will also be experienced over Batanes and Babuyan Islands throughout the passage of the typhoon. Occasional gusty conditions will prevail over the rest of Luzon especially in coastal and mountainous areas due to Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
PAGASA said Typhoon Fabian is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday, July 23 evening or Saturday, July 24 morning.
