Barako Bull import Allen Durham played another monster of a game to lead his team to a second consecutive victory in the 2014 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup.
Durham and the Energy carved out an 88-74 victory over the Talk N Text Tropang Texters Tuesday, June 10 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Durham scored 28 points and grabbed 29 rebounds for Barako.
With the victory Barako Bull (3 wins, 5 losses) finds itself in the Quarterfinals. Barako Bull may still end up in a tie at eighth place with either (or both) Meralco and GlobalPort. But in that scenario the Energy will advance to the playoffs with a superior quotient.
“It’s a good feeling (making the quarters) but we still have to keep working,” said Barako Bull coach Siot Tanquingcen.
Despite the loss the Tropang Texters (5-2) remained in a tie at the top of the standings with the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers (5-2).
The other teams include Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (4-2), the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (5-3), the Air 21 Express (4-3), the San Miguel Beermen (4-3), the Alaska Aces (3-4), the Meralco Bolts (2-6), and the GlobalPort Batang Pier (1-6).
Durham again made the big difference for Barako. The victory over the Texters was a fitting a follow-up to an equally impressive win over Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.
“I’ll be lying if I say hindi malaking bagay si Durham. Yung mga players namin naging kumpiyansa tumira dahil alam nila malakas kumuha ng rebound ang import namin,” said Tanquingcen.
“Not taking anything from Eric Wise (former Barako import). He’s a good player, but Durham is a better fit for us.”
Durham had a triple-double performance against Ginebra.
Durham asserted his dominance at the post the most in the payoff period, bulldozing his way to 11 markers in that quarter.
Keith Jensen and Jeric Fortuna drilled in a triple each to help fuel a 15-6 tear by TNT to give the Energy an 83-74 lead with 1:51 left to play.
The Texters protected a 45-38 advantage at halftime. They hung on to the lead until Denok Miranda drained a jumper to push Barako Bull ahead, 62-61, at the
