Balikbayan boxes from Overseas Filipino Workers will now be tax-free.

In an exclusive interview with DZRH to Neil Anthony Estrella, spokesperson of the Bureau of Customs, the Department of Finance and the BoC approved the order that they will no longer impose tax on balikbayan boxes with amounting to Php150,000.

However, Estrella clarified that this will take effect 15 days after it has been approved, which is on December 23.

In line with this, the BoC also stated that they will no longer open boxes if there is no probable cause.  Balikbayan boxes will immediately be released after going through scanners and x-rays.

Estrella added that if there will be delays with the arrival of the balikbayan boxes, it won’t be the BoC’s fault.
