President Rodrigo Duterte headed the flag raising ceremony for the 120th anniversary celebration of our country’s Independence Day at Kawit, Cavite on Tuesday.
During the said ceremony, the President jested that a large sum of Philippine hereos come from Luzon, and only a small number hailed from the Visayas and Mindanao.
“Alam mo bakit nung na-mayor ako, kasi nung tiningnan ko nung Presidente ako, walang hero ang Visayas pati Mindanao. Kaya sabi ko sa, ito si Badoy sa Culture, sa Commission, sabi ko, “Bakit wala kaming hero? Ibig mong sabihin kayo lang dito sa Luzon ang matapang?” Duterte said.
Duterte said that he created the Order of Lapu-Lapu in recognition of the first hero of the Philippines, who was the datu of Mactan island in Visayas.
The President even pointed out that Lapu-Lapu, who was the first hero to fight against the country’s colonizers, was honored by being named to a fish.
“Anong ginawa ninyo sa aming hero? Aber? Anong title ibinigay ninyo that befits a truly a guy who killed the first colonial for invading our country? Sino at anong ginawa ninyo? Ginawa ninyong isda,” Duterte said.
“Piniritong Lapu-Lapu, sinigang na Lapu-Lapu, imbis na i-bow tayo ganun, you honor by eating,” the President added.
Duterte even added that Ferdinand Magellan, who was killed by Lapu-Lapu, had a body of water, Magellan Strait, and streets named for him.
