The Ateneo Blue Eagles claimed victory over their long-time archrivals, the De La Salle Green Archers in the Best of Three finals of the UAAP season 80 Men’s Senior Basketball tournament, held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last Sunday.

Ateneo’s win did not come easy as the Green Archers fought till the last few seconds in the fourth quarter.

Finals’ MVP, Ateneo’s Thirdy Ravena took to heart ADMU’s mantra, “One Big Fight” as he pushed his teammates to every hustle, rebound inside the court.

The Blue Eagles’ win is also the first championship of their coach, Tad Baldwin.  Baldwin had to make up with his runner-up finish last year, and almost made it with a sweep if not for the Green Archers, serving them their only defeat during the elimination round.

The Green Archers showed some class amid defeat, by lighting up their front campus in blue as they way of congratulating the Eagles.

Meanwhile, no word yet on the future of Green Archers’ coach, Aldin Ayo.  There have been reports that the University of Santo Tomas is courting Ayo to be the head coach of the Growling Tigers after kicking out Boy Sablan.
