The Department of Agriculture (DA) assured the public that there is enough supply of pork products for the Christmas season.
Agriculture Sec. William Dar said on Monday, August 26, that the lack of movement in the price of pork products as the holiday season nears indicates that market has enough supply.
“Wala pang problema sa supply. Iyan ang commitment ng hog raisers, the commercial raisers,” Dar told reporters.
The DA reported on August 19 that they have recorded an increased mortality rate of pigs raised in local backyards. The agency suspects that deaths were caused by an animal disease.
The Department of Trade and Industry already assured the public that the increased number of pig deaths has not affected the suggested retail price of pork products.
