Gilas Pilipinas remains win-less in the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup after suffering a 77-72 lose to Argentina on Monday, July 1, at the Heraklion University Sports Hall in Greece.
Marco Giordano scored 18 points while Francisco Farabello and Lucas Reyes each added 15 points for the undefeated Argentinian team.
After trailing behind by 15 points, 68-53, at most, the Philippine National Boys’ team made an 11-2 run late in the fourth quarter to reduce the lead of Argentina to six, 70-64, giving them a chance for a comeback.
Gilas’ Sean Dave Ildefonso made two free throws to lessen the point difference to four, 75-71, with 22 seconds left in the game. However, two charities from Reyes secured the victory of the Argentinian team.
Ildefonso finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Kai Sotto had 17 points for the Gilas Boys, who dropped to their second loss in the tournament.
