The De La Salle Green Archers ended their losing spell against long-time rival Ateneo De Manila University with an 82-73 comeback in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the MOA Arena in Pasay.
Led by Arnold Van Opstal’s 18 points, the Green Archers stormed back in the third quarter with a 31-16 blitz, to turn the game around after the Eagles lead by double digits in the first two quarters.
Almond Vosotros quietly chipped in the points for the Archers as he ends up with 19 points while Jeron Teng and Luigi Dela Paz added 13 and 10 points respectively.
The Eagles looked poised for a blowout with a 48-34 halftime lead but the Archers would not let this slip away as Van Opstal took matter in his own hands to pace the Archers for the stunning win.
In the first game, Far Eastern U manhandled State U with a 75-57 victory.
The Tamaraws now lead the standings with a 3-0 card while the Fighting Maroons and Eagles slipped to 0-3. (Rommel Fuertes)
