Former President Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino III on Wednesday questioned the appointment of President Rodrigo Duterte to Vice President Leni Robredo as drug czar if he doesn’t trust her.
According to Aquino, leaders ‘normally’ appoint officials who they trust to do his job and to do it well.
“Pwede ba ‘yung itatalaga mo pero hindi mo pagkakatiwalaan? Medyo magulo yata,” the former President told reporters.
His statement stemmed after Duterte made a remark saying that he doesn’t trust Robredo especially on the classified documents of the drug campaign after she made a series of meetings with foreign institutions and personalities that have allegedly prejudged the campaign.
“She [Robredo] is not a member of the Cabinet. I have not appointed her as a Cabinet member. You know why? Early on she was talking right and left that she would talk to this and talk to that. In the Cabinet meeting, we talk about what’s happening eh kung marinig nya yan dyan tapos dadaldal nya sa labas, so di ko….,” Duterte said in an interview.
The President had also threatened to fire Robredo from her post if she would share classified matters of the government since she will be jeopardizing the security of the state.
“The President stated that disclosing classified information of the Philippine Government to foreign individuals and entities will cause the removal of the Vice President from her current post,” Panelo said in a statement.
On the other hand, Robredo said she would continue to fulfill her duties as co-chair even without a Cabinet post.
“Hindi ko na problema kung ‘di pa sila nagkakasundo sa role ko. Basta sa’kin, lahat na puwede kong gawin, gagawin ko,” she said.
