President Benigno Aquino III led the distribution of guns to policemen who don’t have their own service firearms.
In a ceremony at the Philippine National Multi-purpose Center in Camp Crame, the President witnessed the distribution of almost 22,000 glock pistols.
This is the first and second batches of distribution of firearms from the 74,000 units, which according to Aquino was bought by the PNP for 1.1-billion, saying that the government saved almost 200-million.
Aquino said that the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo hopes to give firearms to all policemen after finding out that not all policemen on duty carry firearms.
After the distribution, Aquino gave a spot promotion to two policemen who are fighting crimes even without their own firearms.
The President praised policewoman PO2 Edilyn Agbo that fought against a thief inside a jeepney and eventually arresting the suspect.
He also gave praise to PO2 Felipe Moncatar of Bacolod City that arrested the most wanted rapists and drug pushers even without a service firearm. (Reggie Espiritu)
