Newly appointed DILG Chief vows to continue reforms in agency

Mel Senen Sarmiento the newly appointed secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) bravely said  on Wednesday that he is ready for new challenges to continue  the “Daang Matuwid (Straight Path).”

Western Samar Rep. Sarmiento, currently the secretary-general of the Liberal Party, assures the public that he will continue the reforms that outgoing Interior and Local Government Sec. Mar Roxas’ has started.

According to Sarmiento replacing Secretary Mar Roxas to lead the agency is a great responsibility but  still confident that people will support him to effectively exercise his assignment for more improvements.

Modernization in the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and the other agencies under the DILG are among his priorities as well as the peaceful and clean elections in 2016.

On Tuesday, President Benigno Aquino III appointed Sarmiento as the new DILG secretary to replace Roxas.

Sarmiento has been the mayor of Calbayog City, Northern Samar for nine years.
