House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez questioned the appointment of the former Department of Public Ways and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson as president of the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), which manages the LRT Line 1.
In the hearing of the House Committee on Transportation, Alvarez says that he has no problems with Singson but the former secretary needs to study the law especially the Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Government Officials and Employees.
Singson responded, though, that before he accepted the position of LRMC president, he consulted with the Civil Service Commission and private lawyers.
According to the former DPWH Secretary, based on the advice given to him, he doesn’t have to wait one year to be allowed to take office, because his previous job won’t adversely affect his performance as president of the LRMC.
Singson admitted that his being a former DPWH Secretary forbids him from being involved in any construction business.
Singson also promised that he is willing to step down as LRMC president, if it were to be proven that he is violating the law.
