Senator Juan Edgardo ‘Sonny’ Angara is worried that the high fare charge of some taxis at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) might affect the tourism and image of the country.

Due to this, Angara appealed to corresponding agencies of the government to act on the complaints from passengers against taxi drivers in NAIA for the alleged very expensive fare they charge them.

The senator said that if those abusive taxi drivers cannot be controlled, it may decrease the number of tourists visiting the Philippines.

Angara’s dilemma came after a Facebook post of Top Gear Philippines went viral showing that a yellow airport taxi driver gave the passenger a fare rate of Php1, 800 from NAIA terminal 2 going to Mandaluyong City.

An American passenger also posted that he was charged Php3, 200 from the airport going to Makati City.

In recent days, stories of abusive taxi drivers in Metro Manila started circulating in social media, two of which have been acted upon by the LTFRB.
