Presidential Communications Sec. Martin Andanar said that he is preparing the employees of the PCOO of the possibility that they will be losing their jobs once the office of the Press Secretary starts its operations.
In a statement, Andanar noted that the agreements between the Undersecretary and Assitant Secretary are both ‘co-terminus’ since they rendered their service beyond the pleasure of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. He also added that he is confident that the officials under his agency will remain true to their service even after the abolition of the PCOO.
However, Presidential spokesperson and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo on Saturday clarified that the Presidential Communications and Operations Office (PCOO) with Secretary Andanar as the head remains in place until the Office of the Press Secretary has been established.
It can be recalled that Duterte addressed his plans to revive the Office of the Press Secretary following its abolishment in 2010 by the previous administration.
The previous Aquino administration had split the Press Secretary office into the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) and the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office (PCDSPO). In 2017, Duterte demolished the PCDSPO and transferred its functions to the PCOO, which is headed by Communications Secretary Andanar.
In an exclusive interview with dzRH, Andanar revealed that Duterte might issue an Executive Order within this month that will address the possibility of reverting back into the Office of the Press Secretary. He said that the offices of PCOO, Presidential Spokesperson, and PCDSPO will be under the ruling of the Press Secretary office.
