Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Emmanuel Bautista will review the verdict of the Court Martial against an official whose mistake led to the death of a lot of soldiers in the Albarka, Basilan incident in 2011.
The General Martial found Lt. Col. Leonardo Pena guilty of Article of War 97 or the Neglect Prejudicial to Good Order and Military Discipline.
According to AFP PIO Chief Maj. Ramon Zagala, it was in the hands of Bautista the final decision on the verdict of the Military Court against Pena.
The Chief of Staff could junk the decision of the General Court Martial or he could amend the punishment base on the outcome of his review.
However, Zagala clarified that Bautista can lower the sentence of Pena but not make it more severe.
As Pena’s punishment, he won’t be able to hold any Command for two years and his rank couldn’t be promoted because of his negligence that killed a lot of soldiers from the bloody encounter. (Reggie Espiritu)
