The phreatic eruption of Taal volcano has affected a total of 12,486 families, or around 53,019 individuals, in Batangas as of Wednesday, Jan. 15.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that, out of the said number, 10,000 families, or around 43,681 individuals, have temporarily taken shelter in evacuation centers.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided more than Php 3.9 million worh of assistance to affected families in Batangas and Cavite.
DSWD has also given away 1,338 food packs to displaced people in Balayan, Batangas, and 150 pieces of hamburger to children in Sampaga Elementary School.
A total of 500 food packs, meanwhile, were received by displaced people staying at the Primary Elementary School, San Roque Elementary School, and the City Evacuation Center in Sto. Tomas, Batangas.
DSWD has also deployed staff to evacuation centers in Mataas na Kahoy, Cuenca, Sto. Tomas, Batangas, and Tanuan City in Batangas, and in Alfonso, Cavite.
The Department of Health, meanwhile, has provided more than Php 1.5 million worth of assistance to people in CALABARZON and the National Capital Region.
