Three individuals were killed and more than 70 were injured after a bus, with a temporary plate number 050404, and a 10-wheeler truck, with a plate number AAQ 8534, collided on Monday, May 6, in Atimonan, Quezon.

Atimonan police chief PMaj. Michael Encio identified the killed victims as Benedict Belencio, the driver of the truck; Michael Gerona, a passenger of the truck; and Pio Jacob Del Monte, a passenger of the bus.

76 passengers of the bus going to Bicol were rushed to various hospitals in Atimonan after the accident last night.

Based on investigation, the truck overtook a vehicle along the Maharlika Highway when it collided head-on with the bus of the AMV Travel and Tours, which was traversing the opposite lane.

Authorities had difficulties rescuing the wounded passengers of the bus, and recovering the bodies of the killed victims.

According to DZRH’s Benjie Antioquia, accidents tend to happen at the diversion road in Atimonan due to having numerous road curves and its steepness.
