Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, President of the League of City Mayors of the Philippines (LCMP) announced that the 2017 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections might not push through this coming October.

According to Pamintuan, the Department of Interior and Local Government, after consulting with mayors and other officials of local government units, will be allowed to appoint officers-in-charge (OICs) to replace barangay officials whose terms will end by October.

In May this year, Senate Majority Leader Tito Sotto filed a bill asking to move the barangay and SK elections to May 2020.

President Duterte agreed with the postponement of the elections because he is concerned that drug money might influence election results.
